A communications perspective
A strategy for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion depends on open, and honest communications.
I am a freelance journalist with stories published in the Financial Times, Mail on Sunday, Independent, Guardian, Times, Observer, and Daily Telegraph newspapers. Many of those stories were about equality and diversity.
As a communications professional, I bring equality strategies and plans to life, build trust and positive relationships. As a journalist, I know how to ask the right questions to be a thought leader, and make a change.
HR professionals and corporate communications departments can use terminology which excludes others. They can use phrases like ‘matrix-management structure’, ‘horizon-scanning’ or ‘collegiate’.
The National Autism Society says a huge barrier is the recruitment process, which can put autistic people at an instant disadvantage. They say that job adverts should avoid jargon.
